Liver tumors are mainly of two types:
-Cholangiocarcinoma, which occurs in biliary ducts and may lead to biliary obstruction and jaundice. Brachytherapy is indicated to prevent restenosis of biliary stents.
-Hepatocarcinoma, originating in the liver parenchyma, and usually due to chronic liver disease (cirrhosis, hepatitis...). Recent publications demonstrate the efficacy of brachytherapy in the treatment of recurrent hepatocarcinomas (after chemoembolisation).
